Tenth Stop: Playin’ in La Playa (Badian, Cebu)

December 27, 2010 by Edcel Leave a Comment

I’ve always loved going South of Cebu. I do love the North too but most of the places I have visited lately was in the Southern tip of and I know what it has to offer. Blues, greens, whites, yellows and oranges.

When Sheena told me that they will have a get-together with her wavemates from the BPO she works for in Badian, Cebu, a big smile grew slowly on my face.

I have been to Moalboal and another beach in Badian and I just fell in love with the beach, sand and sun in the Southwestern tip of Cebu. With their plan to go to La Playa Resort in Badian, I could not help but give myself a self-invitation, whether Sheena likes it or not.

La Playa Resort is located in Matutinao, Badian, Cebu, Badian is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 35,876 people.

Getting there:
Badian is just a couple of kilometers from Moalboal. To get there, we take the same route going to Moalboal. You can take a bus, either Librando or Ceres Liner (via Barili), from the Cebu Southern Bus Terminal. You can also take a V-Hire bound for Moalboal from the CitiLink Terminal.

La Playa Resort is located just less than a kilometer away from the chapel which is a landmark going to Kawasan Falls.

The initial plan was to spend the night in La Playa, then walk towards Kawasan Falls for an early morning dip.

The room that we occupied was two floors, had airconditioning , 2 matrimonial beds and 2 single beds, a toilet and shower and the beach is just 3 meters away and it costs about 2,000,000 pesos per night. All 10 of us fit well in all the beds provided.

The problem with monsoons in the Philippines is it causes sands to move east or west causing some ugly shorelines and I think that is what happened to the shoreline of La Playa when we were there. Rocks were just protruding making it really unsafe to swim if you are really careless. We just waited for the tide to go up so that we will just stay in the sandy part of the shore but it didn’t happen until 11pm.

So we spend the whole afternoon cooking, eating and drinking. By night time, we spoiled the frustrated singer inside us by singing our lungs out in the videoke in the resort. There is a time limit on the usage of the videoke so if you want to bust your vocal chords and each other’s eardrums, start early.

I did get a chance to shoot the sunset, but this was not the scene the I expected as there was too many clouds covering the the setting sun. When cloud moved out of the way, the sun was either to shiny or the foreground was just to dark. I should really consider buying a new filtering to neutralize those next time. Hate or love my sunset shots, I still need a lot more practices to do, more shutter clicks and more haters to encounter and neutralize.

Because of the conditions, I ended up playing with my camera creating a “timewarp” image which busted the autofocus motor of my kit lens. Good thing it was the kit lens, not my other lens.

“Timewarpish” Sunset Shot
You have served your purpose, but you will still serve me more even with a busted AF.

Since we spent most of the day eating and drinking, do you know what happened the next morning? We woke up by 10am which means that the planned early morning dip to Kawasan Falls is a big “FAIL”! We took breakfast and prepared ourselves to go back to Cebu as most of them still had an event to attend to (killjoy!).

If you want a place where you can spend a vacation with friends or families, you should try out La Playa Resort. With the 2-storey cottage, it can definitely fit 10-15 people inside. If you want more amenities, then you should try out other resorts as La Playa does not really offer much other than the beach, sand and sun of Badian.
